How safe is online banking?

How safe is online banking? In the last five years the internet has spread throughout the world. Pretty much wherever you go you can always find somewhere access to Wi-Fi. The internet has made everything in our lives incredibly faster, convenient and cost effective. We can shop for something we can never find in our own countries and have it delivered straight to our doors - providing you are willing to take any potential risks with import duties if you have them. We can find long lost relatives and find out what our best friend or worst enemy at school turned out like in the end. It is therefore inevitable that organising your finances was always going to be possible through using the internet.

This poses a small problem for a lot of people in that there may be issues with the level of security of accessing you bank account details on the world wide web where someone may be able to hack into your account, steal your details and eventually all your money. The problem is that having the ability to access you account, make payments and transfer money whenever you want and wherever you are is incredibly convenient considering our busy on-the-go lifestyles.

So how do we access this efficient service with confidence? In most cases banks now will give you a card reader that means you can only access your account with your bank card and pin number, making it pretty much as safe if not safer than using a cash machine. Also check with your bank if they offer any free antivirus software with their online banking service as this will protect you against any viruses that may be trying to get hold of your details.
